We will go through all the important features of both the drone so we can choose the best drone.

Let me tell you that the Mavic mini is not the spark 2, but the Mavic mini is a whole new series of the Mavic line.

DJI Spark was launched on April 15, 2017, and DJI Mavic mini was launched on  October 30, 2019, by DJI.

Both the drones are small but packed with technology and come under the beginner’s drones category. Therefore, if you are beginners, or have a low budget, then this article will give you more out of it.

Many people use drones as a hobby and many professionals as a backup drone.

Mavic mini and spark camera comparison

Image Quality comparison

First, let’s look over the image quality of both the drones. Both the drone has the same camera specifications that are 1/2.3″ CMOS Effective pixels 12 megapixels.

Both the drones having the same camera specification but there is a vast difference in the image quality. For the comparison of the image, we will choose the image below.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is Mavic-Mini-1.jpeg

As we can see in the picture above, the image quality of the spark is darker than the Mavic mini. Which results in better picture quality of the spark.

The image of Mavic mini is warmer than the spark.

We can see that the shadow of the house is visible on the image of Mavic mini, but we didn’t get to see the shadow of the house in the spark’s image.

When you zoom the picture of the Mavic mini, you can see the tower on the left-hand side of the mountain is visible. But that tower is not visible on the image of the spark.

Now after we have compared both the image of the drones and conclude regarding whose image quality is better than the clear winner is the Mavic mini.

Because it captures more details and light into its picture than the DJI spark.

video comparison

The Mavic mini has a 3-axis mechanical gimbal which in the result gives the drone stable video quality in any situation.

The Mavic mini can shoot 2.7 K video at a higher bit rate of 40 megabits per second and also we have the option to shoot 1080p video at 60 frames per second.

The spark has a two-axis gimbal and can shoot the 1080p video at a max bit rate of 24 megabits per second.

As we can see in the video again the Mavic mini is capturing more light than the video quality of the spark. Overall, there is not much difference in the video quality of both the drones.

Design

DJI Mavic mini vs. spark

The design of both the drone is way different. The Mavic mini has the same foldable design like Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 zoom whereas the spark has a tiny design, but the arms of the drone are not foldable like the Mavic mini.

The build quality of the Mavic mini looks premium whereas the spark looks like a toy.

Battery and flight time

The Mavic mini has 31 minutes of (on the page) flight time, but in reality, it will give you around 25- 27 minutes of flight time. In the sport mode, it will give you less than 25 minutes.

The spark has 16 minutes of flight time (on the page) but in reality, it will give you around 12 minutes. On the sport mode less than the 12 minutes.

The Mavic mini has 2 times more battery life than the spark, that is a good advantage with the Mavic users.

Active tracking and Obstacle avoidance

The DJI Mavic mini does not have Obstacle avoidance and Active tracking mode whereas the spark has both these features. Obstacle avoidance and Active tracking feature in the spark gives it an advantage over mini.

Control

The remote controller with the mobile phone can control both the drones attached to it with the DJI app. But the gesture and mobile (tablets) can also control the spark.

The spark has 3D sensors at the front, which help the drone control. It can also be controlled fully with mobile and tablets with the DJI app installed.

However, there is a limitation while controlling with the mobile, for instance, a decrease in the range and it can fly up to 80 m and no sport mode.

The advance control feature on the spark makes it fun to use and a clear winner with the mini.

Advantages and Disadvantage

Pros of Mavic mini over spark

  • Battery life.
  • Fordable design.
  • Need not to register.
  • It has 3 axis-gimbal.
  • Range 2.5 miles (4 km)
  • Video and image quality

Pros of Spark over mavic mini

  • Active tracking and Obstacle avoidance.
  • Supports dji Goggles.
  • control.
  • Face recognition.

Which one is better for you?

The conclusion: After comparing (DJI Mavic mini vs. spark) all the features of both the drone. Now a question which one to choose from. Both are good in their features.

I would recommend you choose wisely according to your need.

If this is your first drone, then you can go with the spark because active tracking, obstacle avoidance, gesture control

However, the spark has some limitations that you might not like, for instance, legal registration, low battery life, and camera. But overall it will give you decent experience and fun to fly.

The Mavic mini is also beginner drones and some features I like about the drone its weight, battery time, range, and design. Despite all, mini would have been better if it had active tracking and Obstacle avoidance and support of dji goggles.
